When it comes to music, there is quite some debate over which genres and which bands supersede one another. Heated arguments in bars, coffee places, internet chat rooms, etc. occur over this broad matter of music and its numerous types.
In my experience, there is no right or wrong when it comes to melody. It’s all subjective! However, it doesn’t hurt anyone to list down a few bands as being better than others, now does it? After all, everyone is entitled to their opinions.
So here’s the deal: this article puts forth a list of some of the best screamo bands to have glorified the music world since the beginning of time.
In case you are one of the few people in the dark about this genre, you might be wondering what screamo entails. Well, the screamo genre has been around since the early 1990s. Emerging from emo, the subgenre has evolved significantly over the years.
If you’re familiar with hardcore punk and have a taste for heavy metal, you would find screamo to be an excellent musical genre with its aggressive rhythms, shrieking vocals, and powerful themes.
According to popular opinion, the top ten screamo bands are:
1. Asking Alexandria
An English band which hails from York, North Yorkshire, Asking Alexandria was founded in 2008 by six people: Ben Bruce, Danny Worsnop, Joe Lancaster, Ryan Binns, James Cassells, and Cameron Liddell.
Bruce has been the lead guitarist in the band ever since its creation, while Cassells and Liddell have been the drummer and rhythm guitarist respectively. Worsnop was the original lead singer, but he left in 2015 on his musical adventure and was, thus, replaced by Denis Stoff. Similarly, the original bassist Joe Lancaster parted ways with the band in 2009 with his place being taken over by Sam Bettley.
As if that’s not enough, 2009 also witnessed another departure from the band, keyboardist Ryan Binns.
Despite the ups and downs, the band has managed to release four incredible studio albums including its most recent one which was launched on 25th of March, 2016, named The Black.
Over the years, its music and lyrics have evolved. They remain heavily influenced by famous artists such as Def Leppard, Guns N’ Roses, and Metallica. But that’s just one part of the story as the band is making further progress by writing songs for other bands as well.
